We are saddled with the responsibility of catering for Nigeria Seafarers (Officers) onboard vessels as enshrined in section 17 of the Trade Unions Act (Amended) Part B Article 3 and 13 of the Trade Unions Act Cap T14 2004 (Jurisdictional Scope). We are also obliged by the Trade Unions Act (Amended) No 22 of 1987 to unionize Officers onboard all Merchant vessels ragging from Coastal Tanker to Fishing Trawlers and Offshore servicing vessel, Tug boat, Barge, Anchor handling vessel etc. By the jurisdictional scope of Trade unions Act, our membership scope ranges from Cadets Trainee to Chief Engineer in the Engine room department and Cadet Trainee to Master in the Deck department respectively. We are affiliate to the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) London, and member of Nigeria Seafarers Welfare Board (NSWB) as well as a stakeholder in Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

It is our responsibility to ensure that there is Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in places onboard all Merchant vessels for Nigerian Seafarers (Officers) in line with the provisions in the Trade Unions (Amendment) Act, National Joint Industrial Council (NJIC) and Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006) as amended.
